Bongani Dube
Founder of News Domain
My name is Bongani Dube, and I am the founder of News Domain.
I created News Domain because I wanted to build an independent South African publication that focuses on information people can actually understand and use.
The internet gives us access to an enormous amount of information, but access to information does not automatically mean access to understanding.
Sometimes the answer someone needs is spread across several sources.
Sometimes an official announcement assumes the reader already understands the terminology being used.
Sometimes an article tells you what happened without explaining why it matters.
I saw an opportunity to build something around that problem.
News Domain is my attempt to create a publication where complicated or important subjects can be researched, organised and explained in a way that respects the reader’s time.
Why I Started News Domain
My interest in building News Domain comes from a broader interest in digital publishing, research and the issues affecting everyday life in South Africa.
I wanted to create something that could grow beyond simply publishing articles.
The goal is to develop a useful South African information platform.
That means thinking about content differently.
Before publishing an article, I want News Domain to consider what the reader actually needs from it.
The starting point should not simply be:
“What can we write about?”
It should be:
“What does the reader need to understand?”
That difference is important.
It encourages us to build articles around genuine questions rather than filling pages with information that does not help anyone.
Building News Domain
News Domain is an independently built publication, and I am personally involved in developing the platform and shaping its direction.
That includes researching topics, developing content ideas, improving the website and deciding how News Domain should evolve.
Building an independent publication is also a continuous learning process.
Digital publishing changes.
Search behaviour changes.
Technology changes.
Government information changes.
And readers’ expectations change.
News Domain therefore cannot remain static.
As founder, my responsibility is to keep improving the publication as it grows.
My Approach to Publishing
There are several principles I want News Domain to follow.

An article should have a reason to exist.
It should answer a question, explain an issue or help someone understand something important.
Traffic alone should not be the only reason for publishing content.

Readers should not need specialist knowledge to understand an article.
Complicated subjects should be explained clearly without removing important context.

News Domain aims to produce original articles written specifically for our readers.
We do not want to build the publication by copying other websites or simply changing a few words from something that has already been published.
Research from other sources may inform an article, but the explanation, organisation and editorial value should come from News Domain.

News Domain is still growing, and I want that growth to be deliberate.
The objective is not to become the website with the most pages.

My name is attached to this website, and I take that responsibility seriously.
I know that building credibility does not happen through an About page alone.
